Ice Burger, a French innovation

I guess you have to be french to invent a crazy item like an Ice Burger. But, if you are crazy about burgers and ice cream, this has to be your dream food.

No one can say the French aren’t creative, as I recently discovered on a business trip to Paris. I was walking along the pictoresque Bassin de la Villette when a sign with a really strange message caught my attention.

Ice Burger for 4 euros! I was instantly puzzled. Is it a burger made of ice or an ice cream made to look like a burger? Or is just a frozen burger?

The truth turned out to be much simpler. Put whatever kind of ice cream you want on top of a hot burger bun and place another slice of bread on top. There you have it, The Ice Burger is served at Biim in the 19th district of Paris.

How does it taste? The burger part tastes like burger and the ice cream tastes like.. eh, well.. ice cream. Strange combination of flavours, indeed, but funny enough.

The place also serves a variety of other dishes and drinks, and homemade ice cream.

The closest metro station is Stalingrad, but it is an easy walk from Gare du Nord or Gare de l’Est. Bassin de la Villette is an oasis in the busy metropolis, beeing a connector between several of the main canals. And, yes, that is actually ice on the water.
